Our Story
Hi, my name is Pinhoti—named after the trail where my story began.
For months, I wandered the Pinhoti Trail, surviving on kindness and scraps from hikers who crossed
my path. My story was shared across trail groups on Facebook, as people hoped someone could help
me. I think I was injured before or soon after being abandoned my back legs don’t work like they
should. I can manage short walks on flat ground, but stairs are tough, and I run with a bunny-like hop.
By November 2024, I’d reached my lowest point. Weak, hungry, and desperate, I stumbled along the
railroad tracks near the trail. I collapsed and cried out for help, unsure if anyone would hear me.
Then, everything changed.
A kind woman heard my cries and came to my rescue. She brought me to a foster home—one that
soon became my forever family. When I arrived, I was emaciated and battling worms and heartworm
disease. But I was lucky. I received the care I needed, and more importantly, I found love.
I never want another animal to suffer the way I did, wandering scared and sick for months. That’s
why I inspired my family to start Pinhoti Animal Rescue (PAR) to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome
animals who need a second chance, just like me.
Today, I’m safe. I’m loved. I’m finally home.
And my family? They love me more than I could have ever imagined.
